Welcome to volunteer.sus.mcgill.ca, a site for the volunteer initiative provided and maintained by the SUS. Our mission is to help science students find suitable volunteer opportunities both on the McGill campus and in the Montreal community. Whether you want to volunteer in a hospital, a homeless shelter, a school or from your own home, there are exciting and fulfilling positions at a number of organizations. On our online volunteer database, you'll find detailed information about a wide range of volunteer opportunities. Each entry addresses the duties of the position, the time commitment, the language requirements and the contact information of the organization.
If we didn't find you exactly what you're looking for, there are other resources to check out.
On campus, there are always events needing and recruiting volunteers, from Science Frosh and Carnival to SSMU Homecoming and 4Floors, you can definitely find a place to get involved. There are also several SSMU clubs that make regular trips to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Just visit www.ssmu.mcgill.ca to find out more about the various clubs and services offered. There are tons of clubs to join and you can even start your own. Your faculty and SSMU listserv emails also include many opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
Beyond McGill, the Volunteer Bureau of Montreal has a fantastic website offering great advice and ample volunteer opportunities. Go to www.cabm.net. You’ll be able to pick your category and take a look at the websites of various organizations looking for some help. Some sites have volunteer application forms to submit online while others will only have the contact information of their volunteer coordinator. It’s as easy as picking up the phone and asking whoever answers about available volunteer positions. Many will offer to send you an information package or advise you to attend their next orientation session.
We recommend taking the time to check out several organizations that spark your interest so that you can make an informed decision about where you want to volunteer your time.
Thanks for checking us out! Hopefully we've helped you find a place or opportunity that suits your needs and interests. If you have any comments or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Happy Hunting!

Every undergraduate at McGill is a member of the SSMU. SSMU represents all undergraduate students to the McGill Administration, voicing any concerns, queries and comments a student or students may have. Additionally, SSMU supports over 200 clubs; providing them with funding, phone and internet access, office space and conference rooms. It is the perfect place to start your search if you want to volunteer for a McGill club.
